Import Your Point Cloud from Matterport

Connect your Matterport account and pull a MatterPak point cloud straight into a BIMIT order, including unlocking a MatterPak without leaving IPX.

If your building is already scanned in Matterport, you don't need to download files and re-upload them. Connect your Matterport account once, then pull the MatterPak point cloud for any of your spaces straight into a BIMIT order. IPX handles the transfer.

Importing vs. embedding

This guide covers importing a point cloud for a BIMIT order. If you just want to embed a Matterport walkthrough on a location, add it as a Virtual Tour instead. See Upload Files to a Location.

Before you start

  • You need a Matterport account with model access to the spaces you want to import.
  • The connection is made once per organization. After anyone on your team connects, everyone with order permission can import.
  • You need permission to place orders. If the Matterport card in Settings shows Locked, the connector isn't enabled for your team yet. Contact IPX to turn it on.

Connect your Matterport account

1

Open Settings and find Integrations

Go to Settings → Integrations. The Matterport card shows its current status: Connected, Not connected, or Error.

2

Click Connect Matterport

Click Connect Matterport. You're sent to Matterport to sign in and authorize IPX to view and download your models. When you return, a confirmation appears: Matterport connected.

You can also connect mid-order

Not connected yet when you start a BIMIT request? The Matterport tile in the order wizard shows Connect and takes you through the same authorization, then brings you right back to your order.

Import a point cloud into a BIMIT order

1

Start a BIMIT order

In the left sidebar, under Services, click Get verified as-builts, then switch the service type to BIMIT. See How to Order a BIMIT Model for the full ordering guide.

2

Browse your Matterport spaces

In the point cloud upload step, look under Or import from a connector and click Browse on the Matterport tile. The Import from Matterport window lists your spaces with thumbnails and addresses, newest first. Search by name or address to narrow the list.

3

Check the MatterPak badge

Each space shows whether its MatterPak (the exportable scan bundle) is ready:

  • MatterPak ready: click Import.
  • Purchase required: the MatterPak exists but hasn't been unlocked. See the next section.
  • No MatterPak: this space doesn't support a MatterPak export and can't be imported.
4

Import and keep an eye on progress

Click Import. The point cloud streams from Matterport into your order with live progress. When it finishes, the file lands in the order's point cloud slot and you can continue configuring scope and deliverables. Made a mistake? Click Replace on the tile to pick a different space.

Keep the tab open

The transfer runs in your browser. You can keep working in IPX while it runs, but closing the browser tab cancels the import.

Unlock a MatterPak without leaving IPX

If a space shows Purchase required, you can unlock it in place:

1

Click Purchase & Import

A confirmation card appears: Unlock MatterPak. The purchase charges your Matterport credits, not your IPX account, and the unlock is permanent.

2

Confirm with Charge & Unlock

Matterport generates the MatterPak, which usually takes 5 to 15 minutes. IPX watches for it and starts the import automatically the moment it's ready.

Not enough credits?

If your Matterport account doesn't have enough credits, the purchase fails with a message telling you to add credits in your Matterport dashboard and retry. You can also buy the MatterPak inside Matterport itself, then come back and click Import.

Good to know

  • Size limit. Point clouds over 5 GB can't be imported yet. For larger scans, order BIMIT with a direct file upload instead.
  • What's imported. IPX keeps only the colorized point cloud from the MatterPak bundle, which is exactly what BIMIT models from.
  • Connection expired? If the browser can't reach Matterport, you'll see a Reconnect Matterport button. Reconnecting takes a few seconds and doesn't affect past orders.
  • More connectors are coming. FARO Sphere XG, NavVis, Cintoo, OpenSpace, and Prevu3D appear in the same grid. Tell IPX which one you want next.
