How Accurate is BIMIT?

Understand that BIMIT accuracy mirrors the source point cloud, and how scan quality and alignment affect the result.

BIMIT's accuracy is directly tied to the quality of the point cloud it is built from. The model mirrors the source data: an accurate, well-aligned scan produces an accurate model, while errors in the scan carry through to the output.

Accuracy depends on the point cloud

  • Source device. Accuracy depends on the point cloud captured by the device used — for example the Matterport Pro2, the Leica BLK360, or another camera.
  • Alignment. Proper point cloud alignment is critical. Any misalignment or discrepancy in the scan directly affects the model's accuracy.
  • The model mirrors the scan. The BIM reflects the precision of the point cloud: accurate input yields an accurate model, and inaccuracies are carried through.

Getting the best results

Use high-quality capture

For the best BIMIT output, use high-quality scanning equipment and follow capture best practices when generating the point cloud.
